Construction work to connect the Sydney Metro City & Southwest line with the existing Metro North West line is now complete, paving the way for testing to start on the new route later this year. The Northern Connection was constructed over two years. Work included the installation of tracks and operational services in the 15.5 kilometre twin tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham. The final link to connect the two metro lines involved four sections of rail and almost a kilometre of copper overhead wires between Chatswood Station and the new Sydney Metro City & Southwest tunnels. This connection will allow…

The US military is unsure what three flying objects it shot out of the skies over North America were – and how they were able to stay aloft. President Joe Biden ordered another object – the fourth in total this month – to be downed on Sunday. As it was travelling at 20,000ft (6,100m), it could have interfered with commercial air traffic, the US said. A military commander said it could be a “gaseous type of balloon” or “some type of a propulsion system”. He added he could not rule out that the objects were extra-terrestrials. The latest object -…

HAVANA, CUBA — Pedro Yudel Bruzon was looking for someone in the U.S. to support his effort to seek asylum when he landed on a Facebook page filled with posts demanding up to $10,000 for a financial sponsor. It’s part of an underground market that’s emerged since the Biden administration announced it would accept 30,000 immigrants each month arriving by air from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti. Applicants for the humanitarian parole program need someone in the U.S., often a friend or relative, to promise to provide financial support for at least two years. Bruzon, who lives in Cuba, doesn’t…
(Reuters) – NATO should hold an emergency meeting to discuss recent findings about September explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said late on Saturday. Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1970, said in a blog post on Wednesday, citing an unidentified source, that U.S. navy divers had destroyed the pipelines, with explosives on the orders of President Joe Biden. The White House dismissed as “utterly false and complete fiction” the claim that the United States was behind explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, which send Russian gas to…
To the long-suffering people of the region known as the Pamiris, the avalanche disaster was yet another blow to their community. The Pamiris, who are Ismaili Muslims whose religious leader is the Aga Khan, have been facing relentless attacks by the regime security forces of President Imomali Rahmon. Rahmon launched a brutal campaign in 2022 to suffocate the Pamiris’ dynamic civil society by killing local leaders and peaceful protestors, arresting hundreds, and using torture, rape and religious repression to eliminate what they called “terrorist and criminal elements.” On February 15, snow avalanches roared down mountainsides and crashed through Tajikistan towns…
LIV Golf can say that they gained its first victory in 2023 when the Saudi-backed professional golf tour announced their multi-year media agreement with a United States television. On Tuesday (19/1/2023), LIV Golf signed their first national broadcasting deal in the US with The CW Television Network. The deal will ensure that the second season of LIV Golf can reach more US fans. That means a lot for LIV Golf as their first season in 2022 could only be seen in US by streaming on YouTube, Facebook, or their website. That’s not good enough for LIV Golf as most sports including…
