The USDA is investing over $600,000 in clean energy projects across Montana to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs for local farms and small businesses. This funding is part of the Inflation Reduction Act, supporting climate action initiatives.
The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) is distributing $256 million nationwide for 1,100 renewable energy projects in 40 states. In Montana, 15 projects will receive support for solar arrays, energy-efficient heating systems, and other energy-saving improvements.
For example, CM Property Management LLC in Hot Springs will receive $31,000 to install a 20-kW solar array, saving $4,909 annually. Similarly, Jordan Homestead LLC in Ronan will install a 20.16 kW solar array with $39,812, saving $2,201 per year.
Other projects include Pioneer Meats Inc. in Big Timber, which will save $38,689 annually with a 58.5 kW solar system, and Slicks Auto LLC in Belgrade, saving $1,862 with a 12.6 kW solar installation.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack emphasized that these investments not only address climate change but also create jobs and strengthen rural economies. These projects highlight the government’s commitment to energy efficiency and rural development.
